Yves Bissouma is a 24 year old Malian midfielder who is currently playing for Brighton & Hove Albion in the English Premier League. He joined the south coast club in 2018 from French side Lille for an undisclosed fee.
Since then Bissouma has played 70 times for Brighton and has become an important part of their midfield. His athleticism, range of passing, strength on the ball and tenacious tackling has been integral to Brighton’s team.
This season Brighton had struggled up until the last few weeks where they’ve found some form and had some impressive results. Graham Potter will be hoping they’ve turned a corner. However, Bissouma’s performances have been at a high standard all season, even when the team wasn’t playing well he still stood out.
The Malian international has been so impressive that he’s attracted interest from a number of clubs. Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Real Madrid are all said to be keeping a close eye on the Brighton midfielder. Various reports suggest Brighton would demand around £37 million for their star man.
There’s been a lot of comparison between Bissouma and United midfielder Paul Pogba. Both have similar attributes and play the game in a very similar way. Should Pogba leave in the summer, Bissouma would be an ideal replacement for the World Cup winner.
There’s nothing to suggest United are front runners for him, but recently the Old Trafford club pulled out of a deal for Moises Caicedo who has now signed for Brighton. Is this Bissouma’s replacement or is it just a coincidence this has happened? Time will tell but United should be doing everything in their power to lure him to Old Trafford.
