Carabao Cup – Everton V Manchester United: Late Show By Cavani And Martial See United Through To The Semis

When United visited Goodison Park earlier this season they left with all three points thank to goals from Bruno Fernandes (2) and Edinson Cavani. Both teams had made changes for tonight’s encounter as the fixtures are starting to pile up.

United came flying out of the traps and almost took the lead when Pogba’s backheel found Van de Beek. But the Dutchman’s low drive was well blocked by Michael Keane. The home side were all over the place and Olsen in the Everton goal looked a bag of nerves. He’d already looked uncomfortable from a number of crosses before he almost gifted Cavani with a tap in.

At the ten minute mark United had already had 5 corners and everyone of them had caused a problem. Surely they would make one count sooner rather than later?

Greenwood was causing huge problems for Everton and on the 20th minute his clever header clipped the post before going out for a goal kick. Really unlucky but you felt it wouldn’t be his last chance. United were doing everything but score, they were all over their hosts. Cavani was causing havoc for the Everton defence and Olsen had to deny him twice in quick succession to keep the score at 0-0.

Finally the home side grew into the game and Sigurdsson saw his free kick well saved by Dean Henderson. The resulting corner came to nothing but the home side had certainly turned it up a notch. Half time arrived and United should really of been a couple of goals up. Would they be made to pay for their missed chances?
