Jesse Lingard, 28, may soon be leaving Old Trafford as there are multiple teams who have showed interest in the player. A recent Sky Sports report shows that the French Ligue 1 side, Nice, have opened talks over a loan move for Lingard. It is also reported that Lingard’s representatives have been in contact with Nice for the past four days. An official offer is expected to be made in the coming week. As the midfielder has had a rough season at United, is this the end for him?
Jesse Lingard has been at United since he was a child, joining the academy at a young age. During this time at the academy, the attacking midfielder presented himself as a top talent with loads of potential. However, he never really lived up to his potential, and he struggled to establish himself as a quality player for United. In the early stages of his career, Lingard was sent on loan four times to four separate Championship teams, such as: Leicester City, Birmingham City, Brighton & Hove Albion.
While the French side, Nice, are the front runners for Lingard this January, there are several other teams who are rumoured to be interested in his services. One of which is Steve Bruce’s Newcastle who are said to be wanting a permanent deal for Lingard. Another side who are rumoured to be interested in him permanently, are West Ham United, fronted by our former manager David Moyes. However, nothing has yet materialised between United and either Newcastle or West Ham. Yet, there are some people longing for Lingard to leave the club.
He needs to move, he needs to go somewhere to play – a lesser team than United. He need to get back to doing what he can do, I remember him starting for England.Dimitar Berbatov
Alongside all of the transfer and loan move rumours, there has also been a failed attempt to sign Lingard. Before Nice’s approach, the Spanish side – Real Sociedad, was close to finalising the deal. However, the attempt fell through. It is unknown as to who is at fault for the failed negotiations. Jesse Lingard’s representatives have been very busy over the past week as there are also several unknown clubs who have been interested in his services. It seems almost certain that he will not be playing for the reds anymore, for this season at least.
While Lingard has had some incredible moments at United, such as the awe inspiring goal against Leicester for the Community Shield and the embarrassment he caused Arsenal at the Emirates. His time at United can be defined by one word – inconsistent. This will be a major factor which condemns him for a time away from Old Trafford.
