Manchester United is just five points away from securing Champions League qualification for next season as we take on our bitter rivals Leeds United in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon. We will kick off at 14:00PM BST. The game can be watched live on Sky Sports Premier League with coverage starting at 13:00 PM.

This is always a standout fixture and is the first league meeting at Elland Road between the sides since October 2003, when a Roy Keane goal secured a 1-0 win for us. In the reverse fixture at Old Trafford back in December saw us thrash Leeds 6-2 in what was a very entertaining game.

A Turbulent Week In The World Of Football

We come into this game off the back of a hectic week in the world of football. United was announced as one of the founding clubs of the new European Super League last weekend. The new competition was met with opposition from fans, the Premier League, the FA, UEFA, and the UK government. Within days, the new league was left in tatters as clubs began to withdraw from it with United being one of those.

United will now want to focus matters on the pitch as we take on Leeds. We have won the last five games across all competitions. We secured a 3-1 win against Burnley last weekend that has left us on 66 points from 32 league games, 11 points clear of fifth-placed West Ham.

The Red Devils have an important week ahead as we face Roma in the first leg of the Europa League semi-finals. We followed this game with a home league match against rivals Liverpool.

Manchester United Team News

Anthony Martial and Phil Jones remain absent through injury. They are not likely to feature in any of the remaining games of the season. Eric Bailly should be on the bench having returned to training this week after recovering from coronavirus. It remains to be seen if Marcus Rashford will feature as he has not trained all week due to a foot issue. He has not been ruled out as yet but if fit could potentially be involved at some point during the game.

Edinson Cavani will be pushing to be in the starting eleven after coming off the bench last weekend to score in our victory against Burnley. Mason Greenwood and Bruno are set to be in the attacking positions with Fred and Scott McTominay expected to be the midfield duo.

Opposition Preview

Leeds have won many plaudits since returning to the Premier League and currently sit 10th in the table. The main priority for this club was survival but they have exceeded this expectation. They have 46 points from 32 league games and will want to finish their league campaign strongly and be inside the top half of the table.

The key players who have helped them are midfielder Kalvin Phillips, who has established himself as a England regular. Patrick Bamford has shone this season, with only fellow Englishmen Harry Kane scoring more goals. Right back Luke Ayling has been impressive who has ranked highly in both the passing and tackling stats.

Unbeaten in the last five games, they have drawn against Liverpool and Chelsea, whilst taking all three points against Fulham, Sheffield United, and Manchester City.

Leeds United Team News

Leeds will have to do without their captain Liam Cooper through suspension. Rodrigo and Adam Forshaw will also miss the fixture through injury. They will be hoping that Raphina has recovered in time from his thigh injury to feature. Manager Marcelo Bielsa may name an unchanged side from the one that played against Liverpool last Monday.

Predicted score

This fixture has all the hallmarks of being a great game to watch given how the reverse fixture played out back in December. As we head into the final month of the league season, both sides will want to finish as strongly as possible. I expected the game to be an open affair. Our away record has been outstanding having not lost a league game away from home this season. United has enough quality in their attack to get past this impressive Leeds side.
