Manchester United are close to signing Rennes midfielder Eduardo Camavinga. The 18 year old has made a huge impression for Rennes since breaking into the first team in 2019. The French youngster has played 67 times and has two goals and one assist to his name.
Camavinga is a tenacious defensive midfielder who is no stranger to a yellow card. The youngster loves a tackle and his more than capable of holding his own. The Rennes midfielder has been compared to the likes of N’Golo Kanté in recent months and you couldn’t get much higher praise than being compared to arguably the best defensive midfielder in the world.
Eduardo Camavinga has been a long term target for Manchester United and Rennes are open to selling him this summer with his contract ending in 2022. United were hoping to sign the 18 year old for around €30m but Rennes want more in the region of €35-€40m. Talks are at an advanced stage and both parties are confident a deal can be done in the coming days.
More often than not we’ve seen Solskjaer play both Scott McTominay and Fred in front of United’s back four but neither are defensive midfielders by trade. Camavinga looks the perfect fit to play on his own in the defensive midfield role and it would certainly benefit United going forward.
