Manchester United Step Up Their Pursuit For Leicester Midfielder Wilfred Ndidi

Manchester United have recently stepped up their pursuit of Leicester midfielder Wilfred Ndidi. After the signing of Jadon Sancho and with Raphael Varane almost complete, they are now turning their attentions to signing a defensive midfielder.

When talking about defensive midfielders Wilfred Ndidi is right up there. Since signing from Genk in 2017 he’s been impressive and Ndidi is now attracting attention from some of the bigger clubs around Europe with Manchester United being one of them.

It’s been clear for sometime that Manchester United have been in need of a defensive midfielder. More often than not Solskjaer has played with both Scott McTominay and Fred over the last two season’s. But should United sign a defensive midfielder there surely wouldn’t be the need for both the Brazilian and Scottish international in the starting 11.

Wilfred Ndidi has made a real impression since he came to the Premier League and it’s shown once again how good Leicester are in the transfer market. On average the 24 year old covers 6.8 miles per game and was 4th on the list for tackles (96) made last season. Not only can he play as defensive midfielder he’s also suited to the centre midfield role.

Stats since 2016 –

The Nigerian has really stamped his authority on the Leicester City team and there’s no doubt the Foxes are heavily reliant on him. Should he move on he’d leave a gaping whole in the Leicester midfield. Ndidi has a contract with Leicester until 2024 but time will tell if the 24 year old will see it out.

Leicester value their star man at around £60 million. Various reports suggest that United are trying to include Daniel James in the deal for Wilfred Ndidi. Leicester are said to be keen on the Welshman and are actually favorites with the bookmakers to land the pacey winger. Life hasn’t worked out for Daniel James since joining United in 2019 and a move to the King Power Stadium would be ideal for the 23 year old.
