Manchester United will look to continue their good start to the 2021/22 Premier League season when we take on Aston Villa this Saturday lunchtime. The match kicks off at 12:30PM BST. The game is not being broadcasted live on television in the UK.
The Red Devils lie third in the league table level on points with leaders Chelsea having collected 13 points from our opening five games. We have won four games and drawn one with only goal difference separating the top three sides. United arrive into this fixture off the back of our defeat in the League Cup on Wednesday evening to West Ham. Previous to that we lost 2-1 to Young Boys in our opening Champions League game on September 14th meaning we have not had the best start in these cup competitions.
We came from behind in our last league fixture against West Ham at the London Stadium when Jesse Lingard put us 2-1 up. West Ham’s Mark Noble had his penalty saved by David De Gea meaning we are now looking to secure our fourth consecutive league victory of the season this weekend. United have important games to contend with before we head into the international break as we face Villarreal at home in the Champions League on Wednesday 29th. We then face Everton at the beginning of October.
Cristiano Ronaldo who has scored four goals in three appearances since coming back to Old Trafford will be looking to get on the scoresheet again this weekend.

For United, we will still be without the services of both Marcus Rashford and Amad Diallo through injury. Edinson Cavani has only just returned to training so may not feature this weekend. Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær is expected to make changes from the side that played against West Ham in the League Cup midweek. It is likely that it could be the same side that played in last week’s league victory over the Hammers.
Paul Pogba will feature on the left, with Scott McTominay and Fred operating as the midfield duo. Whilst both Bruno Fernandes and Mason Greenwood will support Ronaldo in the attack. Jadon Sancho is likely to drop down to the bench having started the game midweek.
Manchester United’s Predicted Lineup
De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Maguire, Shaw; Fred, McTominay; Greenwood, Fernandes, Pogba, and Ronaldo.
Aston Villa has had an indifferent start to their Premier League campaign. They have won two, drawn one, and lost two of their opening five games. They currently lie 10th in the table on seven points. Just like United, Villa was also knocked out of the League Cup midweek when they were defeated on penalties by Chelsea after drawing 1-1.
They had lost 3-0 to Chelsea in the league on September 11th but were in fine form last weekend, when they defeated Everton 3-0 with Matty Cash and Leon Bailey amongst the goalscorers. Aston Villa who finished 11th last season will certainly think they are capable of coming to Old Trafford to cause an upset.
Aston Villa Team News
For our opponents, Axel Tuanzebe who is on loan from United will be ineligible to face us. Trezeguet, Keinan Davis, and Morgan Sanson will not feature due to injury. Matt Targett is a doubt for this game with an abductor problem, whilst John McGinn and Leon Bailey are facing a race to be fit due to concussion and a thigh injury.
Aston Villa could line up in a 3-5-2 formation, with Kortney Hause coming in for Axel Tuanzebe. If Matt Targett is not available, then this could see our former player Ashley Young start against us. Danny Ings and Ollie Watkins are expected to lead the attack with Emiliano Buendia having to settle for a place on the bench.

United will be wanting to be bounce after the disappointment of being knocked out of the League Cup on Wednesday evening. Solskjær is expected to revert back to the same side that won against West Ham in the league last weekend. Whilst, Aston Villa has Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings in their attack and will certainly fancy their chances against us.
