Manchester United will return to Old Trafford after the international break to take on Newcastle United that could potentially see Cristiano Ronaldo make his second debut at the club. The match kicks off at 15:00PM BST. The game is not being broadcasted live on television in the UK.

The Return of Ronaldo

The Red Devils will be looking to achieve their third win of the season. All eyes will be on Cristiano Ronaldo who had made an incredible return from Juventus in the final days of this summer transfer window. It will be the first time since 2009, the Portuguese international will put on the famous red shirt. He was released early from international duty that has allowed him to join up and train with his new teammates. It is likely he will be named in the starting eleven for the game against Newcastle United, which is set to be an incredible moment for the fans.

Whilst the return of Ronaldo has been a worldwide story, United cannot take their foot off the gas in terms of picking up points. We dropped two points against in a disappointing performance against Southampton in our second Premier League game.

We have 7 points from our first three games, which is a good start beating Leeds 5-1 and Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0 before the international break commenced, thanks to a crucial goal from Mason Greenwood.

We currently occupy third spot in the Premier League table, two points behind leaders Tottenham Hotspur. It is set to be a busy period as we head towards the end of the month as we also compete in the Champions League and League Cup.

United will open up the Champions League campaign with an away trip to Young Boys next Tuesday. Whilst we face West Ham the following weekend in the league before meeting again in the League Cup days later.

Scott McTominay has returned to training after undergoing surgery on his groin but will be unavailable for this weekend’s fixture. Fred will be suspended from the game after a FIFA-imposed ban. This could see Donny Van De Beek gained a rare start in the midfield alongside Paul Pogba.

Marcus Rashford still remains out as he steps up his recovery after surgery on his shoulder. Dean Henderson, Alex Telles, and Phil Jones are all back in full training.

Opposition Preview

Newcastle United has not made the best start to their 2021/22 Premier League campaign. They have picked up only one point from their first three matches. This has left them 17th in the table. They began the season with back-to-back defeats to West Ham and Aston Villa respectively. The Magpies were also knocked out of the League Cup in the second round by Burnley on penalties.

Before the international break, Newcastle United secured their first point of the season when they held Southampton to a 2-2 draw with goals from Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin. The Magpies only have the Premier League to focus on before the FA Cup campaign begins in January. They have three games as we head towards the end of the month facing Man United, Leeds United, and Watford. It will be intriguing to see where they are positioned in the table once they have completed these fixtures.

Newcastle United has lost the last three games against Man United, which includes the 3-1 defeat in the fixture last season at Old Trafford. In addition, the Magpies have not won an away game at Old Trafford since December 2013.

Newcastle United Team News

For our opponents, Callum Wilson is set to miss the game against Man United after occurring a thigh problem. This could see Joelinton in the attack alongside Allan Saint-Maximin. Martin Dubravka, Jonjo Shelvey, Ryan Fraser, Karl Darlow, and Elliott Anderson will all not feature to injury. Isaac Hayden and Paul Dummett have returned to training and could play some part in the game.

Miguel Almiron is suspended for the same reason that sees Manchester United’s Fred miss this game too.
