Ole Gunnar Solskjaer | Public enemy No. 1

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been in charge of United for two years now. The young manager has had some good and bad moments during his time. The good moments for Solskjaer as a manager have been memorable and iconic and more often than bad moments. Yet, some fans paint Solskjaer as the enemy.

Ever since Solskjaer’s first game in charge, United have slowly retained a respectable status. He inherited a team with no support and passion. He has turned them into a team that wants to win. A team that have made a good account of themselves. He has led United to some incredible wins, such as: the two victories against PSG, the victory that knocked Liverpool out of the FA cup, the victories against Manchester City, and the 5-0 dismantling of RB Leipzig.

Everyone wanted us to fail, but it doesn’t bother me

With those good moments, naturally, there are also some on the other end of the scale. It seems that Solskjaer’s Manchester United have a serious problem with consistency. With big wins, disappointment seems to follow. United have up until the game against City, been in poor form. This causes fans to completely disregard everything to oppose the manager.

United are currently second in the table. 14 points behind the league leaders and opponents last Sunday, Manchester City. We are also in two cup competitions – the FA Cup and the Europa League, which United have looked impressive in. In both competitions, we have had very difficult draws, yet we are still front runners. Yet some fans still oppose Solskjaer.

This is not the first time either.

The great Sir Alex Ferguson. Once he took over from Ron Atkinson, he also had poor spots of form. Some fans were so critical of the manager that they called for him to be sacked. He was only in charge for a year at the time. While Solskjaer certainly is not at the same level as Sir Alex. There is nothing stopping him from improving to that level in the future, if he is given time. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has potential.

Solskjaer’s rebuild has been apparent. It is clear to see that he has not yet been able to finish the project. However, there has been exciting glimpses of excellence from the project at hand. At some points United are scintillating. A real resilience and sense of never giving up has been drilled into the team. If he gets the time and the players he needs, United could become the most feared team in the world once again.

We must back our manager. With Solskjaer, the future looks bright.
