Premier League – Manchester United v Wolves: Rashford Strikes Late Winner To Send United Second

United and Wolves had plenty of pace in attack with the likes of Traore, Rashford, Neto and Greenwood all on the pitch. But for all the attacking flair it was the defense’s that were on top. Bailly was having a good game and looked comfortable along side Maguire. Likewise Saiss along side Coady.

United have looked vulnerable from corners so far this season and did again tonight. A Wolves corner was met by the head of Saiss and his header clipped the bar before going over. Moments later Saiss came close again! He flicked on a Neto free kick and De Gea made brilliant reaction save to deny him!

Fernandes was pulling all the strings and ten minutes before half time he nearly gave his side the lead. A Greenwood cross found him at the back post and Patricio made a wonderful save to deny him. Chances had been few and far between for both sides but this was the best chance of the half. The sides went in with the game goalless at the break.

United made a sub at half time with Luke Shaw replacing Alex Telles. Rashford had found himself in some good areas on a number of occasions but couldn’t get past the stubborn Wolves back line. Saiss in particular had made some crucial blocks.

Neto had looked lively for Wolves but he couldn’t produce the extra bit of quality that was needed. His team mate Traore was struggling to have any kind of impact on the game. Every time he was in possession he’d found himself surrounded by red shirts.

Solskjaer had plenty of options on the bench and with just over 25 minutes to go Martial replaced Mason Greenwood. He had a chance almost right away but he couldn’t keep his shot down. As the game was heading into the final 20 minutes Cavani thought he’d opened the scoring only to see the flag raised for offside. It was a good finish by the Uruguayan but It was the right call by the linesman.

Ait Nouri was having a good game and with eight minutes left he brought a good save out of David de Gea. Thankfully for United Maguire was on hand to clear the ball away from danger after the Spaniard had parried it back into the danger area.

Both Pogba and Fernandes were trying to create that one moment that could win the game. The pair had looked the most likely to make anything happen all evening. Solskjaer and his coaching staff were urging the players on from the side, they desperately wanted a winner.

United had turned up the heat as we came into the final 15 minutes, Wolves were starting to look leggy. The fourth official indicated that there would be five minutes of added on time, it’s not the number the away side were wanting to see!

As the clock ticked over into the fourth minute of injury time United got the goal they’d been desperately craving! Rashford cut inside and his left foot strike took a wicked deflection off defender Max Kilman before nestling in the back of the net. Patricio had no chance! United had won it right at the depth!

Wolves had came out fighting in the first half but in the second they’d got deeper and deeper as the half had gone on. In the final 20 minutes there was only one side trying to win the game and in the end they’d got their reward.
