United came into this game on a run of 9 consecutive Premier League away wins. They would fancy there chances of extending it against a Sheffield United side who had just one point from twelve games.
It was the home side who started on the front foot and they took the lead after just six minutes. A Maguire back pass wasnt dealt with by Henderson and David McGoldrick pounced to give the blades the lead! United were shell shocked.
The home side were really on top and moments later they nearly made it 2-0. John Fleck’s left foot strike went just wide. But the lead lasted all of ten minutes as Sheffield United’s high line got caught out. Lindelof played a wonderful pass in behind and Rashford’s touch and finish was exquisite. Fantastic goal, Ramsdale no chance.
It was now the away side who looked more confident and they looked dangerous every time they came forward. The high line of Sheffield United was doing them no favours and on the 33rd minute they fell behind. Pogba found Martial with a delightful pass and after two bites at the cherry he found the back of the net.
The home side didn’t let their heads drop but with giving up the lead they now had to chase the game, not ideal against a side who are lethal on the counter attack. Half time arrived and Sheffield United found themselves in a familiar situation.
The home sides task was hard enough and shortly after half time it got even harder. A scintillating counter attack started by Paul Pogba was finished off by Rashford for his second of the game. Questions will be asked of the goalkeeper but the football leading up to the goal was fantastic and it deserved a goal.
Last season Sheffield United had a solid back line but this season it’s been anything but. Although they looked a threat going forward they looked incredibly weak at the back.
Greenwood was having a quiet game but with just over 20 minutes left he saw his right foot shot saved well by Ramsdale. United were in cruise control and some of the Football being played was brilliant to watch. Pogba was having an excellent game and any time he got the ball you thought something might happen.
Sheffield United may of been 3-1 down but they were still plugging away and with four minutes left they gave themselves a lifeline. A John Fleck corner was met by the head of Lindelof but his header came back off McGoldrick and in to the back of the net! 3-2! Comical goal for United to concede and once again they’d been the architect’s of their own downfall.
All of a sudden United had gone from being in control to now looking at a nervy last few minutes. In the second minute of added on time Mousset thought he’d rescued a point but Henderson pulled off a fantastic save to deny him. He’d certainly made up for his earlier error.
United held on to make it ten straight Premier League away wins which is a new club record. This is also the sixth consecutive away game where they’ve come from behind to win in the league this season.
United now sit 6th above both Chelsea and City with a game in hand over everyone above them. Next up they meet old rivals Leeds United on Sunday at the theatre of dreams.
