Manchester United kick-off their next game of the Premier League against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane tonight, at 20:00 DST. You can watch it live on Amazon Prime. The coverage of this game starts at 19:30.
A lot has been said about this fixture over the past few days, especially with other results over the past few days. Liverpool have taken all three points against Tottenham, Wolves took all three points away from Chelsea and Manchester City could only muster a point against West Brom.
Manchester United now have two games in hand and sit in ninth position. If they can take maximum points away from these games, they will jump up to second and be only two points off the summit. This is a stark contrast to how the media have been summing up Manchester United’s hopes for this season. It is not as bad as it once seemed.
A lot of talk has been circulating over the past couple of years which suggests that United do not seem to have a method to break down lesser opposition. This is not currently the case this season, as the only smaller team that United lost all three points to were Crystal Palace. The other two teams are Chelsea and relegation fighters Arsenal. Sheffield United have only managed to acquire one point so far this season and it would be a huge disappointment if they manage to take any points from us this evening. They can defend relatively well but cannot find a way to score. This of course works in our favour as our defence has been questioned at times, but we seem to be able to score several goals. Time will only tell if prime Barcelona turn up against United tonight which has been known to happen on many occasions in more recent times.
I do not think that we could see too many changes from the usual back five we see. Although Ole gave Dean some huge praise as we come up against the team that he was out on loan to last season. Could he start instead of David?
He also mentioned a bit more about Anthony Martial. He was able to get a few training sessions in this week and a full days’ worth on Tuesday. I think he could be in contention to start, if not feature.
Paul Pogba as we all know has been in the limelight recently, and not for the right reasons. However, he has arguably been our best player in the last few games, and I would not be surprised to see him start. Bruno is irreplaceable currently. I think he will be a definite to start. Although could this be the perfect opportunity to rest players like Bruno, Aaron and Pogba?
Jack O’Connell is the only absentee for Sheffield United. Manchester United are without Edinson Cavani (25%), Phil Jones (100%) and Marcos Rojo (100%). Every other player is available tonight.
What I would like to see is: Henderson, Williams, Lindelof, Maguire, Telles, Matic, VDB, Pogba, Mata, Greenwood and Martial. My prediction of the score line is Sheffield United 0, Manchester United 3.
