The deal to bring Alex Telles to Old Trafford is moving ever closer. The reliable Fabrizio Romano has reported that United have found an agreement on personal terms and are now in talks with Porto regarding the fee.
The 27 year old would be a fantastic signing and he would certainly solve United’s left back problem. Telles already has 2 goals and an assist to his name after just two games this season.
Over recent years Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander – Arnold have set the standards of how a full back should be contributing to a team. They both managed 25 assists between them in the league last season. Whereas Luke Shaw didn’t register a single assist in the league and Wan Bissaka only managed 4.
The leg break Shaw suffered back in 2015 has clearly affected him and you have to wonder if he will ever get back to his best? You see glimpses from him every now and again but he can’t sustain it for long periods. It’s heartbreaking to see that the injury he suffered 5 years ago seems to be getting the better of him.
The stats from Telles are very impressive. Overall he has scored 21 goals for Porto making 37 assists. The 2017/2018 season saw him score 3 times while making 13 assists. Last season was even better for the Brazilian as he scored 11 while making 9 assists.
He would certainly give United a different dimension going forward. As good as he is in an attacking sense it takes nothing away from the defensive side of his game.
It seems only a matter of time before Telles is a Manchester United player!
