Manchester United’s new home kit has officially been released.
The Bus Seat Strip
In march, there were leaked photos of the united home kit. To no ones surprise, the kit was laughed off as looking like a bus seat. To be fair, those fans were not far off.
The New 2020/21 Home Strip
The new strip has since been reworked and looks much better when worn in person. The shirt now has a simpler design with more subtle horizontal sequences. The Adidas stripes on the shoulder are highlighted in this kit making them more obvious. What continues to be the greatest advertising campaign ever run is that massive Chevrolet logo. Can not miss it.
The Champions League
Had Manchester United failed to qualify for the champions league, we could have risked the possibility of losing $25 million of the Adidas deal. Good thing we are the 3rd best team in the league. This bodes well for transfer activity too, as part of the money from UEFA Champions League qualification can be reassigned to transfers.
Official Adidas Statement
“For this season, we researched the values and iconography that connect athlete and fan, and looked to fuse these with modernity and innovation, to create something that connects the people and stands for unity,” Inigo Turner, Design Director at adidas.
“We pretty quickly landed on the crest as it is the representation of the heart and passion of the club, it is symbolic and iconic across the world. It is significant as the first component added to each design, and one that makes up the threads of the shirt design for the 2020/21 season.”
United will wear their new 2020/21 home kit for the first time at home to LASK Linz on Wednesday 5 August in the Europa League.
