Despite his young age, Mason Greenwood has already set himself up as one of Manchester United’s first team players. After a rocky, dry spell earlier in the season, Greenwood has recently showcased his class. After scoring an exceptional goal against Leicester City on Tuesday, he now has 12 goals and 6 assists to his name this season. But how did he revive his season?
The recent arrival of Edison Cavani is undoubtedly a blessing for Mason Greenwood. Not only does this relieve the pressure from the 19-year old, but it also allows him to have a world class mentor. Cavani is one of the true great strikers of modern football and the teachings that he can pass on to Greenwood will prove to be invaluable. However, ‘El Matador’ is not the only world class attacker at the club, as both Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes will also be key to the development of Mason Greenwood.
The past couple of seasons have been tough for United. We have had to rely on players who were not really ready to start every game for the club. Mason Greenwood was one of them. Before the arrival of Bruno Fernandes, it seemed like we had to rely on an 18-year old for goals. However, unlike most players at that age, Mason Greenwood thrived and had a brilliant season. Now, that same ‘sharp shooter’ Greenwood has appeared once again.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s belief and trust in Greenwood has not gone unnoticed by the fans. In fact, the majority of United fans are pleased that the ‘United DNA’ is still strong within the club. Manchester United has been built on the youth, which in turn, has produced legends. Under the tutelage and belief of the boss, Greenwood has become a great player. This, being one of the main reasons that he already has 100 caps for the reds.
The second half of this season has solidified Mason Greenwood as one of England’s top youngsters once again. He is once again on the same lines as Phil Foden and Bukayo Saka. In fact, one could argue that he should be in the England squad once again for the upcoming Euro’s.
Despite the brilliant end to the season. It has become apparent that Greenwood must improve on his consistency, as an in-form Greenwood and an off-form Greenwood are two very different players. It would also be exciting to see him truly stake his claim for the number 9 role because currently, he has not given Solskjaer enough reason to move in from the right wing.
Hopefully our number 11 can carry on this electric form into the next season. With it, United could be well on their way to acquire some trophies and potentially even the Premier League. Every Manchester United fan is behind Mason Greenwood and we can’t wait to see him set the world of football on fire.
