Manchester United head to London in a confident mood as we take on Tottenham looking to cement second place in the Premier League. We will kick off at 16:30 PM BST. The game can be watched live on Sky Sports Premier League with coverage starting at 16:00 PM.

The Red Devils have won the last four of five games across all competitions. Before the international break, we had a disappointing loss against Leicester City in the FA Cup. However, we have won the last three Premier League games, putting us in a strong position to secure Champions League qualification for next season.

United is 14 points behind our rivals and league leaders Manchester City, but we are 8 points clear of fifth-placed Liverpool giving us much control over second place in the league. Our last league away success came last month when we beat City 2-0 at the Etihad. Since then, we have won our last two league home games as we beat Brighton and West Ham. We are now unbeaten in 10 games in the top-flight.

We arrive into this game off the back of our 2-0 win against Granada in the Europa League quarter-finals first leg tie on Thursday evening. The breakthrough came when Marcus Rashford scored in the 31st minute after picking up Victor Lindelof’s long ball. It was in the final few minutes that we put ourselves into a commanding position with Bruno Fernandes dispatching the penalty for the second goal. It would be a surprise if United do not make the semi-finals of the competition with the second leg coming up this week.

United has two more league fixtures to come before the end of the month as we face both Burnley and Leeds. At the start of May, Liverpool come to Old Trafford, and are also chasing a place in the top four.

United haven’t been beaten in an away league game since January 2020. We have won 9 of the 15 away games in the league this season, though four of the last five have ended in draws.

Manchester United Team News

Anthony Martial is definitely out of the Tottenham game as he continues to recover from his knee injury. Ole Gunnar Solskjær has said it is not likely we will see Martial play in any part of the remaining games of the season. Phil Jones remains a long-term absentee from the side.

Eric Bailly will also miss out following his positive test for covid-19. Luke Shaw and Paul Pogba should be fit. This is despite both picking up minor knocks against Granada. Dean Henderson is expected to return between the sticks. Fred is likely to return in the midfield.

Marcus Rashford is nursing a knock to the ankle but should start the game against Tottenham. Solskjær was asked during his pre-match conference over the concern over the number of games he has played. He said, “I don’t think you need to be concerned about his fitness. Of course, barring any injury. No, his fitness is really good. He’s an athletic boy, he’s a fit boy, strong boy, you can see when he goes into headers and challenges he can look after himself.

But, at one point, of course you hope to get to a position where he doesn’t have to play every game, every minute and, at the moment, of course we have to take him off because his foot is a little bit sore. So hopefully that’ll improve as the season goes on because I think he was better tonight than he was on Sunday.

Opposition Preview

Tottenham have had their problems this season just like United. The North London club currently lies in seventh place in the league. Manager Jose Mourinho is facing pressure to deliver Champions League football next season after their surprise exit in the Europa League last month. If Spurs do not get any European football next term, it could see Mourinho lose his job.

They do have their chance to end their long run without any silverware when they take on Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final at the end of the month.

Tottenham comes into this game after drawing 2-2 against Newcastle United last weekend. They have won only 7 of their 14 games at home and have incurred four defeats. This has included losses to both Liverpool and Chelsea at the beginning of 2021. However, they won the last three home games and scored 10 goals in the process.

Much speculation remains over the future of striker and captain Harry Kane. He will have an important decision to make if Tottenham does not achieve any European football for next season.

Tottenham Team News

Tottenham will be without both Matt Doherty and Ben Davies through injury. Other than that, Jose Mourinho will have a strong squad to choose from. Serge Aurier and Toby Alderweireld return to training this week and are pushing for a place in the starting eleven. Son Heung-min is expected to start. He could form an attacking partnership along with Harry Kane and Lucas Moura.

Predicted score

United will be looking to exact some revenge on Tottenham. In the reverse fixture at Old Trafford, we had been beaten 6-1. We have a good away record this season and we take this confidence into the game. Securing Champions League qualification is important and a win against Spurs will put in a very strong position to do this.
